SRK plays a Muslim in three successive films, triggers cultural war in India

SRK playing Muslim characters in his last few films, raises cultural war in India.

While SRK must obviously be wondering why his movies are not doing as well as that of the other two Khans (Aamir and Salman), he would never have imagined that the fact that he has played a Muslim in the last three films would trigger another silly cultural war in India.

Several leading Indian newspapers have provided their reasoning behind SRK playing Muslim characters, one of them even proclaiming that its a strong message to India that needs to be noticed and lauded.

Most Indian Muslims are expected to strike a balance between their religious identity vis-à-vis their national identity. However, for many in India, it seems SRK has allegedly transgressed that limit in Raees, his third back-to-back film in which he has played a Muslim character after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Dear Zindagi.

So what exactly is SRK’s take on this?

SRK agrees that dialogues like “BANIYE KA DIMAAG AUR MIYA BHAI KI DARING” sounds good only on the big screen. As expected, SRK rightly ridiculed the idea (I’m sure he has got more important things to think about, related to his career). Here’s what Shahrukh said:

“With due respect to my professionalism as an actor, I did not even know what my name was in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. I just went for two hours, did some shots and had fun with my friends, Karan, Ranbir (Kapoor) and Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan). I wrapped up around 2 am and partied till 6 am before flying back to Lisbon. Don’t create a point of view. These are films which were postponed for two years. I would still like to believe that in this day and age, an artist is there to put across entertainment in the best way he or she thinks is possible,” SRK

SRK, in an interview recently, had said that nowadays he’s stopped giving opinions about anything, because he constantly gets dragged into some controversy or the other because of that. Checkout this video.
