Train station singer records her first song, thanks to Himesh Reshammiya

Ranu Maria Mondal got a first-hand experience of the power of the internet. A two-minute viral clip of her singing Lata Mangeshkar’s Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai helped her record her first song (for Himesh Reshammiya’s upcoming film). She is also being getting several talent show offers.

59 year old Ranu Mandal used to sing at a railway station in West Bengal. A video clip of her singing “Ek Pyaar ka Nagma hai” has changed her fortunes, thanks to the power of social media.

After the original video clip went viral, several pictures of Ranu with complete makeover started doing the rounds of social media. Mondal is now getting offers from various places like Mumbai, Kerala and even from Bangladesh, to sing at events/shows.

She was a participant in the reality show Superstar Singer, and her performance on the show convinced music director and singer Himesh Reshammiya, who is also one of the judges on the show, to offer her a song in his forthcoming film Happy Hardy and Heer.

And Himesh did stick to his words; Ranu has recorded her first song ever titled Teri Meri Kahani, and that too for a film. How cool is that?

Kudos to Himesh Reshammiya for keeping his promise and giving her an opportunity, and that too in a Bollywood film.

The original video went viral and has been watched over 5 million times, with several celebrities also sharing the video. Watch Ranu singing the song, you can hear the sounds of trains whizzing past.

26-year-old engineer Atindra Chakraborty changed Mondal’s fate by recording her video. “It was a chance encounter. I was hanging out with my friends at a tea stall on platform No 6. A Rafi song was playing in the radio aloud. Suddenly I heard the lady humming to the tune, as she sat on the platform floor. I asked her if she could sing something for us,” as told to India Today.
