Shilpa Shetty’s island therapy in gorgeous Montenegro, the best of the Mediterranean

Bollywood actress-TV show judge-fitness author Shipa Shetty talks about the great time she had in Montenegro.

Montenegro (means “Black Mountain” in Italian and often dubbed as the Switzerland of the Mediterranean) is a south European and a Mediterranean country, and one of the most interesting places in the world to visit, with staggeringly spectacular scenery. Majestic mountains, breathtaking beaches and larger-than-life locals, proves that good things can come in small packages.

The Montenegro government is working hard to develop the country as an elite tourist destination. Well, it definitely attracted Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty and her friends.

Montenegro is one of the fastest growing travel and tourism economy in the world, as per the World Travel & Tourism Council.

Every woman would love to get such a SURPRISE!

Every woman wants a gift for her birthday and for special occasions such as wedding anniversary. And if the surprise is unexpected, its even better!

That’s what Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty got on her birthday. Husband Raj Kundra not only took Shilpa to Montenegro for a a three-day getaway, he also flew down fifty of their closest friends to have a great time (I wish I was a friend of Raj).

No wonder Shilpa Shetty was mighty impressed with her hubby.

Stayed at Sveti Stefan Aman Island Resort

They first flew down to the Italian city of Naples, from where it was a three-hour drive to Montenegro. Raj Kundra had booked the entire Sveti Stefan Aman island resort (almost) for his friends.

Shilpa Shetty and Raj spent a lot of time on the beach which was a stone’s throw away from their room.

I enjoy paragliding and jet skiing but there was no scope for it in Montenegro, which is more of a luxury island.

Relished Mediterranean cuisine

Seafood is a common dish in Montenegro. Shilpa had grilled, preservative-free organic food wherever possible and gorged on cake and Turkish sweets like baklava and tulumba.

The traditional dishes of Montenegro have a distinctively Italian flavour which shows in the bread-making style, the way meat is cured and dried, cheese, wine, spirits, soup, stew, stuffed peppers and meatballs.

Exploring the Place

Montenegro’s Venetian architecture, the Romanesque cathedral and clock tower are major attractions.

Shilpa and Raj also spent time in the coastal city of Kotor, a ridiculously stunning town that it looks almost surreal. On their way back from Aman Sveti Stefan resort, they saw the largest natural harbour in the eastern Mediterranean, which looked majestic.

Montenegro Tourism

Montenegro is one of the most southern European states and faces the south part of the Adriatic Sea (its separated from Italy by the Adriatic Sea).

Located south of Croatia, and with a mild Mediterranean climate, Montenegro has natural diversity as well as historic grandeur. The tiny country boasts of two Unesco World Heritage Sites, including the walled town of Kotor.

Christian, Muslim, Turkish, Slav and many more civilizations converged here, making Montenegro a crossroad of culture and history.

The Balkan country has rugged mountains, medieval villages and a narrow strip of beaches along its Adriatic coastline. Montenegro is also home to the Durmitor National Park, home to bears and wolves, limestone peaks, glacial lakes and 1300 metres-deep Tara River Canyon.

Montenegro Tourism

While visiting Montenegro is safe for foreign visitors, few incidents of violence in Kotor has highlighted concerns about rampant organised crime and corruption that threatens Montenegro’s growing reputation as a tourist paradise.
