Miss France crowned Miss Universe in Philippines, no Indian in Top 13

Miss France has won the 2017 Miss Universe crown in the annual pageant held in Manila, Philippines (Mall of Asia Arena by Manila Bay).

23-year-old dental student, Iris Mittenaere, who hails from a small town of Lille in northern France, did not expect to reach so far and was stunned with the result.

In the final question, the candidates were asked to cite a failure in their life and explain what they learned from the debacle.

“I’ve failed several times in my life, when you fail, you have to be elevated and you have to try again and keep going … I have failed before but for me this is the great first opportunity,” Mittenaere said

Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen was one of the judges at the event. She posted a video of her walking the ramp (during rehearsals). “This is it. The stage that changed my life, when India made history. What an honour it was to represent my country. As I walk the ramp one last time, I want you to know, I love you very very much. This is for you INDIA.” the former beauty queen said.

In the past, Bollywood actresses Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta have won the Miss Universe crown for India. It’s been more than 15 years since India won the Miss Universe title. Sushmita Sen won in 1994 and Lara Dutta was crowned back in 2000.
