Mahira Khan finally breaks her silence on the controversy with Ranbir Kapoor. Mahira was trolled recently for her viral pics with Ranbir Kapoor. Though initially people were speculating a Ranbir-Mahira affair, it quickly turned into a ‘women can’t do this’ thing.
“It was a personal thing and I have learnt from it. I am a careful person otherwise.
I don’t smoke on screen because I don’t want to show it to the world.”
These are personal questions but I think it is very normal for a girl and guy to hang out. Secondly, we have learnt from it and realized that you guys [media] are everywhere.”
Mahira Khan trolled for viral pics with Ranbir, finds support from India/Pak celebrities
Haters trolled Pakistani actress Mahira for smoking and wearing a short (backless) dress, despite being a Muslim.
In the viral pictures, Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan were seen smoking outside a New York restaurant.
While Mahira has chosen to stay mum over the episode, several Bollywood celebrities have come out to defend her.
Bollywood actress Zarine Khan says “Everybody has an opinion, everyone behaves as if they are out to take over the world and correct the world, they give out these statements thinking this is how they are contributing to correcting the world by catching hold of a particular human being and trying to make them feel bad.”
Ranbir Kapoor, who was seen in the pictures, had tweeted, “I’ve gotten to know Mahira in a personal capacity over the last few months. She is somebody who I admire and respect, for her achievements and even more for the person she is. It is very unfair the way she is being judged and spoken about. What is also sad is the inequality in judgment just because she is a woman. I request you to stop the negativity and move on with your beautiful god gifted lives. Peace and love. PS: Both smoking and hate are injurious to health.”
Ranbir’s dad Rishi Kapoor said, “He could have met her just outside there. They must have been in a restaurant or a place where they cannot smoke, that’s why they are smoking outside. In US, they have really strict rules that don’t allow smoking in public places. I can’t say anything more because I don’t know anything more than that.”
Parineeti Chopra said “It’s a little unfair. Everybody knows it’s unfair and it’ll stop. Today, because of social media, everything becomes too big a deal”.
Varun Dhawan said “Shame on them for shaming her”.
Several Pakistani celebrities also came out to support Mahira Khan. Here’s what Ali Zafar, Momina Mustehsan, Humaima Malik and Osman Khalid Butt said.
Ali Zafar wrote a letter (with neat calligraphy). He wrote “What has happened to us? Have we lost all sense of sensibility? Must we choose gossip, intrigue and the self-appointed right of judgment over restrained, grace, tolerance and compassion? Every woman has the right to make her own choices in life (as long she’s not hurting anyone else), just like we men do. How we react defines our own character. Choose wisely, for we SHALL be judged!”
