Bollywood films that showcased live-in relationships, including Luka Chuppi

While it may still not be very common in our society, more and more couples are opting to live-in. Over the years, Bollywood movies have showcased the pros and cons of being involved in such a relationship. Let’s checkout the Bollywood films that explored the theme of live-in relationships.

Luka Chuppi

The recently released Luka Chuppi (2019, directed by Laxman Utekar) features Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in lead roles. Set in Mathura, where one political party is firmly against the idea of live-in relationships, the movie portrays the challenges faced by Kaartik and Kriti in a live-in relationship, and how they long for getting married in the traditional manner (following the usual rituals).

Unlike the other movies in this list, the movie hardly has any noteworthy song (but its entertaining).

Shuddh Desi Romance

In Shuddh Desi Romance (2013, directed by Maneesh Sharma), Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor play the lead roles. Set in Rajasthan, the romantic comedy received positive response from critics as well as the audience. The movie has some good melodious songs.

Aashiqui 2

In the second half of the film, you see Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor living in together. However, Aashique 2 (2013, directed by Mohit Suri) focussed more on the turmoil in their relationships. The sequel to the 1990 Bollywood film Aashiqui also turned out to be a blockbuster with some amazing songs.

Cocktail (2013, directed by Homi Adajania) is a love triangle between Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty, who all live in together and fall in and out of love with each other.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama

Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011, directed by Luv Ranjan) is the funniest of all the movies that portrays live-in relationships. The movie is about three bachelors who fall in love and succumb to the unending demands and tantrums of their girlfriends. The movie was very popular with the youth.

Salaam Namaste

Salaam Namaste (2005, dircted by Siddharth Anand) had Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta in the lead roless. This YRF rom com was among the earliest movies to portray live-in relationship.

There have been more movies that focused on this theme of live-in relationship, such as Befikre, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, I, Me Aur Main, Wake Up Sid. However, the ones listed above did well at the box-office.
