Bollywood and other film stars are pledging financial help to off-set the damages caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s a round-up of our film celebs who are donating generously to help the Indian government battle the Covid-19.
Bollywood ‘Khiladi’ Akshay Kumar, who is idolised by fans all over the world, has pledged to contribute a whopping Rs.25 crore (Rs250 million) to PM Narendra Modi’s relief fund.
“This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people,” his post read.
His wife says when she asked him if he was sure as it was such a massive amount, he just said, ‘I had nothing when I started and now that I am in this position, how can I hold back from doing whatever I can for those who have nothing.’
Shah Rukh Khan has offered his four-storey personal office space to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), to be utilised as quarantine facility for quarantined children, women & elderly.
Shah Rukh has committed to contribute to the PM-Cares Fund through his IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Through his film production banner, Red Chillies Entertainment, he will give to the Maharashtra CM’s Relief Fund.
Shah Rukh’s Meer Foundation along with the foundation Ek Saath will provide daily food requirements to over 5,500 families in Mumbai, for at least a month.
SRK has also pledged Personal Protective Equipment for health care providers and workers in Maharashtra and West Bengal.
Salman Khan will provide funds for 25,000 out of work artistes and industry workers, whose lives have been affected by the lockdown in India.
“After we approached Salman Khan, he asked us to give him a count of the most affected workers from our association and we told him there were 25,000 such artistes. He has decided to contribute for them. We will be sending him the list in the evening,” said Tiwari, president of Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).
Ajay Devgn has donated Rs 51 lakh to support daily wage workers of film industry.
He contributed the amount to Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). Producer Ashok Pandit, chief advisor to FWICE, lauded the actor for the gesture, and appealed to others Bollywood celebs to do the same.
Bhushan Kumar, the T-Series head, has pledged to donate Rs.110 million (Rs.11 crores) to PM relief fund. “Today, we are all at a really crucial stage and it’s extremely important to do all we can to help. I, along with my entire @TSeries family pledge to donate Rs110 million to the PM-CARES Fund. We can and will fight this together, Jai Hind,” tweeted Bhushan Kumar.
The Baahubali actor Prabhas has pledged Rs.40 million (Rs.4 cr) towards the COVID-19 relief fund.
The South Indian star has promised to donate Rs 12.5 million (Rs. 1.25Cr.) to Telengana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala to fight against coronavirus.
The South Indian superstar has donated Rs5 million (Rs.50 lakh) for relief work.
The Street Dancer actor has promised to contribute Rs3 million (Rs. 30 lakh) to the PM Care Fund. He tweeted: “We will overcome this. Desh Hai To Hum Hai”.
Singer Guru Randhawa has pledged to contribute Rs 20 lacs from his savings to PM-CARES Fund.
Director Rajkumar Hirani also pledged to contribute, although he did not mention the amount.
