Amitabh Bachchan has Hepatitis B, is Surviving on 25% Of His Liver

Amitabh Bachchan has spent several decades in the film industry, leads a very healthy lifestyle, and at least once has returned back from the jaws of death. Recently, while speaking at an event, to the shock of many, Big B revealed that he has Hepatitis B which he contracted through blood transfusion.

This is what Amitabh Bachchan said.

“Hepatitis B came to me accidentally. After my accident on the sets of Coolie, I was infused with the blood of about 200 donors and 60 bottles of blood were injected into my system. The Australian antigen Hepatitis B had only been detected three months ago and it was very new for being detected also among various tests needed to be carried out before giving blood to another patient. One of my blood donors was carrying Hepatitis B virus which went into my system. I continued to function normally till the year 2000 and almost 18 years after the accident, during a very normal medical checkup, I was told that my liver was infected, and I had lost 75 percent of my liver. So, if I am standing here today, you are looking at a person who is surviving with 25 percent of his liver.”

Fight Scene from COOLIE which injured Amitabh Bachchan

Well its indeed sad news that Mr Bachchan is surviving only on 25% of his liver. But then, the good part is that one can survive even with 12 percent of your liver. However, I’m sure Mr Bachchan’s doctors will take all the precautions to prevent the liver to get to that stage.

We just hope & pray that Mr Bachchan continues to be active, and works in many more films to come.
