What is WTTC?
World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is a forum for the travel and tourism industry, it comprises members from the global business community and works closely with various governments to raise better awareness about the travel and tourism industry.
About the ‘Tourism for Tomorrow’ Awards
The ‘Tourism for Tomorrow’ Awards instituted by the WTTC are aimed at recognising best practice in sustainable tourism within the industry globally. Its the highest accolade one could get in the tourism industry.
If you’re a travel destination, business or any tourism related project, you could apply for the awards.
Winners are chosen depending on various factors, important ones being:
- Environmentally friendly operations
- Preserving cultural and natural heritage
- Beneficial to the social and economic well-being of the locals
Tourism for Tomorrow Awards finalists are hosted at WTTC’s Global Summit when the winners are announced at a prestigious gala ceremony.
Dharavi (Asia’s largest slum and located in Mumbai) based ‘Reality Tours’, owned by one-time waiter Krishna Pujari recently bagged this prestigious ‘Tourism for Tomorrow’ Awards. Reality Tours got the awards for its controversial slum tourism “showcasing” Dharavi for tourists, mainly foreigners.
