‘Habitual offender’ Salman Khan convicted for blackbuck killing
A Jodhpur court has convicted Salman Khan convicted for blackbuck killing; arguments on the punishment are under way. Co-accused Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam and Tabu have been acquitted.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Judge Khatri called the superstar a ‘habitual offender’ and convicted him, while giving the benefit of doubt to the other actors. Salman Khan has been sentenced for 5 years under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act.
The actors are accused of hunting down two blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the intervening night of October 1 and 2, 1998. The actors were in the city for the shooting of the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.
It has been a long legal battle between the Bishnoi community, who are committed towards protecting the species, and the Bollywood stars.
Salman Khan’s death threat gets serious, ‘Race 3’ Shoot had to be stopped
Salman Khan was provided police protection after a group of armed men reportedly barged into the sets of his next film Race 3, directed by Remo D’Souza.
Recently, Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi (leader of a top crime gang in Punjab and prime accused in murder of a Jodhpur-based businessman) had issued an open death threat to Salman Khan in Jodhpur where Salman had a hearing in the 1998 blackbuck case.
“Salman Khan will be killed in Jodhpur and then he will know who we really are. I can flee from police custody any time,” he said in a statement to the media.
As per the report, the gangster is a part of a community in Rajasthan that worships black bucks and hence, threatened to kill Salman. Lawrence Bishnoi has over 20 criminal cases against him, including extortion, kidnapping, and attempted murder.
According to a report filed by Mumbai Mirror, things got serious when armed men barged into the set of ‘Race 3’ to kill Salman.
Sensing a threat to Salman’s life, the cops reached the shooting spot and informed the actor about the possible threat to his life. Salman Khan was safely escorted to his Bandra residence from Film City in Mumbai.
“The police arrived at the Race 3 set in Film City and told Salman and producer Ramesh Taurani that the shoot had to be stopped immediately as the actor needed to head home as soon as possible. Salman was escorted in another car by six cops, while his own car was driven back to his residence by another group of cops,” revealed a source.
